Woohoo! My first award!

Woohoo! My first award!  I was nominated by Lindsay from Wild Ginger for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award!  It was so sweet of Lindsay to think of me!  Thank you!

Woohoo! I won an award!

Here are the Rules:

  • Thank the Blogger that nominated you and link back to their site.
  • Put the award Logo on your blog
  • Answer 10 questions the blogger has sent to you.
  • Create 10 new questions for nominees to answer.
  • Nominate 10 bloggers and notify them.  (I don’t personally know 10 bloggers — I can only think of two right now…)

Here are the questions Lindsay asked me:

What is your favorite fall clothing staple item?

Just one?  And a clothing item?  I love fall clothes.  To be honest, I’m shocked that not shopping this time of year isn’t bothering me.  My favorite clothing item during the fall is a tunic length sweater (paired with leggings, boots or booties, and a scarf, of course!).

What did you want to be when you grew up when you were a kid?

As a child, I hated that question!  I could never think of anything other than a housewife or a teacher so that’s what I would say when asked, but the truth is, I knew that I was meant for something else!  I just wasn’t sure what.  Heck, I’m still not sure what I’m supposed to be doing in life!  I don’t know that accounting is truly my calling, but I can’t really stay at home.  If anyone has any suggestions for me, let me know!

Ice cream flavor of choice…

I love Uncle Bob’s Fudgy Goodness ice cream or Talenti Gelato coconut.

What was one of your favorite things you did this summer?

My husband and I went on our 5 year anniversary to Cancun (WITHOUT the KIDS!!)!  We stayed at the Moon Palace, and it was wonderful!  Maybe I should do a post reviewing our experience…

If you had to live in another state, which one would it be?

Initially, I was thinking California, but they have droughts, earthquakes, fires, and high taxes.  Honestly, I don’t know where I would pick!  We’re so blessed to be surrounded by family and living in our family home that I’m not sure that we could move away.

If you had to extend a television series one more season, which would it be?

Gilmore Girls, and it’s already being done!

What was your favorite subject in school?

School seems so long ago!  I think I loved anything to do with English.  It gave me an excuse to read.  I know that I hated PE in high school the one semester that I had to take it.  I am not good at bad mitten or archery!

If Hollywood were to make a movie about your life and you got to pick the actress, who would you pick?

Reese Witherspoon!  She’s one of Chad’s celebrity crushes so he would get a kick out of it!

Imagine…you become an overnight music sensation, what is the name of your hit single?

Geesh!  That’s a tough one!  Great question, Lindsay!  My song would be “Slippin’,” because it seems as though life is just slippin’ by!

What’s your plans for the weekend?

It’s Halloween!  Friday afternoon is the children’s Halloween parade at their daycare.  I love to attend!  It’s so cute!  Friday evening we’re going to my mom’s for dinner.  Saturday morning, we’ll go get our butchered beef and hog.  Then, I think we’re going to head North to see Mr. Keller’s cousin’s new baby.  After that, we’ll take the Keller Kids trick or treating.  Sunday, I hope to meet up with my friend Abby and her husband!

All right!  That task is done!  Now my whole list of two other bloggers, it’s your turn (if you so choose!)

The Keller Kids

childhood best friends

Best of friends

Mr. Keller and I have been blessed with two beautiful children.  Being their parents has taught us so much about ourselves and is making us better people every day.  Each of the Keller Kids certainly has his/her own personality, needs, and wants!

BK

mystery man

Funny guy!

This funny guy is 4 years old.  He tends to be pretty cautious, but every now and then he has a crazy streak that will burst out!  In the picture below, he decided to put the “Wet Floor” cone over his head at WalMart and make a run for it.  Being the good mom that I am, I took a picture before I chased him down and explained that we don’t touch those cones.

Run

Run, BK, RUN!

BK can usually be found outside with Mr. Keller.  He loves to “drive” the tractors, and his very favorite chores include bailing hay, digging dirt, and feeding the cows.

Driving the combine

BK driving the combine. Watch out!

BK is also a very serious (for a 4 year old) student at his day care.  He is currently in a pre-K class where they are doing a great job preparing him for kindergarten.  At first, he struggled with holding a pencil properly and using scissors, but he came home after “school” and practiced nearly every evening.  His favorite saying:  “Practice makes Progress.”

BK is an amazing big brother, too.  He and MK are the very best of friends.  He loves to tease her, teach her new things, and  just give her snuggles.  He uses MK as his sounding board and his test dummy.  If something looks scary or frightening to him, he has her try it out first!

MK

TMNJ Girl!

TMNT Girl!

This girl is 2 years old.  She’s fearless, determined, and very motivated. In a nutshell:  she’s me.  The best… and the worst!

Mommy and daughter

MK and Mommy

At just 2 years of age, she knows her colors, can count to 14, loves to sing the ABCs, and is a frighteningly good communicator.  This girl knows how to tell others what she wants and how she wants them to do it.  I once saw the word “toddler” defined as “Emotionally unstable pint-sized dictator with the uncanny ability to know exactly how far to push you towards utter insanity before reverting to a lovable cuddle monster,” and it struck me as perfectly accurate in MK’s case!

MK’s favorite activities involve anything with which BK is playing and helping me or Grandma in the kitchen.  She throws her entire little being into everything that she tries, and she has been like that since birth.  Below is a video of her first steps at home.  As you can see, she really took off!  She was just 10 months.

Mr. Keller and I look forward to seeing how these two grow and develop through the years!  We will share more about these two in future posts, I’m sure! They are kind of our lives, after all!

Meet Mrs. Keller

This is me!

This is me!

This is me!  I find it very difficult to write my own introductory page, but here we go!

Wife, mother of two, and full-time CPA.  I  am an introvert, and I typically test as an INTJ on the Myers Briggs personality tests.  This means that I love structure, tend to be quite serious, and I sometimes struggle with social “niceties;” however, I’m trying!  I promise, you all, I am really trying!

When I am not at work,  or chasing children, I can usually be found working on projects around our Tinker Farm, reading a good book, or indulging in my worst hobby–shopping!  I truly enjoy gardening and canning the products from our garden and orchard.  I’m sure that as this blog develops, you will find several of my canning recipes!

I spend a lot of time working on our personal finances. I am an accountant, after all!  I am very interested in Financial Independence and the benefits that come along with reaching FI.

As I will be the primary writer on this blog, I think I’ll stop there!  I suspect that you will get to know me on a rather deep level as time goes on!

Meet Mr. Keller

Baling Hay

A Hard Working Man!

A hard working farmer!  Mr. Keller works full-time at a burial vault company.  He has the very noteworthy job of setting up for graveside services when someone passes away.  This is not the type of job that would appeal to everyone, but Mr. Keller is rarely bothered.  He has a quiet appreciation for each life and believes in treating each service respectfully.  In addition to that, we have nearly 100 acres of farm ground that Mr. Keller farms.  For those of you who do not farm, that may sound like a lot of ground, but, in truth, it’s a very small farm.  In fact, we do not even have our equipment.  We are fortunate that Mr. Keller’s father allows us to use his equipment.

Outside of work, most of Mr. Keller’s time is spent working on our Tinker Farm and following sports.  Mr. Keller is an avid sports fan!  He follows football, basketball, and baseball closely.  His favorite teams being the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and St. Louis Cardinals.

He is a great father and  caring partner.  We are very blessed to have him in our lives!

Life with the Kellers

Life with the Kellers, 2015 Family Photo

Hi!  Welcome to Life with the Kellers – a blog about…  well, our life!  We are a young couple living in the Midwest on  a small 6.5 acre hobby farm.  We have two children, two dogs, one cat, and a small herd of cows.

Our family has truly been blessed beyond measure:  we are healthy, love where we live, and we are surrounded by friends and family!  We are living a mostly frugal lifestyle as we work towards paying down our debt and increasing our investments.  We believe strongly in investing in our future rather than living for the moment.

This is the very first post in the blog, but if you stick around, I promise you will see the content grow by leaps and bounds!  I plan to focus on our daily lives.  This means posts involving parenting, food, budgets, DIY projects, and more!  Please check back again soon as we build our online content and community!
